Rahr Dextrin Malt is a specialty malt designed to enhance body, mouthfeel, and head retention in beer without significantly impacting color or flavor. With a very light color rating of approximately 1.5–2.0 Lovibond, it preserves the beer’s original hue while contributing unfermentable dextrins that increase viscosity and fullness.

This malt is particularly beneficial in lighter beer styles where additional body is desired without altering the flavor profile. It can be used at rates of up to 10% of the grist to achieve the desired effect. In addition to improving mouthfeel, Dextrin Malt enhances foam stability, resulting in a more appealing and enduring head on the beer.

Brewers often incorporate Rahr Dextrin Malt into recipes for pale ales, lagers, and low–alcohol beers to compensate for thinness and to create a more satisfying drinking experience. Its neutral flavor allows it to be added without overshadowing the contributions of base malts and hops, making it a versatile tool for fine–tuning beer characteristics.
